MAPAL BENEFITS FROM THE BOOM IN BRAZIL AND MEXICO
In the important Latin American countries of Brazil and Mexico, MAPAL is, as in many European markets, for a long time only been represented by commercial agencies. This is less than ideal for customer acquisition and support. And in Brazil, the economically strongest country in South America, customs barriers against the EU also have a restrictive effect.
This is why MAPAL establishes its own subsidiary in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1997 and equips it with a repair service shortly afterwards. Further capacities are created with a modern plant in Ibirité, which is significantly expanded again in 2012. Due to the rapid economic development of the country, to which the increasing establishment of foreign automotive plants also contributes, MAPAL do Brasil is the MAPAL Group's largest foreign location for a while.
Around the turn of the millennium, also Mexico economically becomes increasingly important. Primarily because many US companies set up plants there, the country becomes the second largest economy in Latin America after Brazil and an important exporting nation. The commercial agency set up through the company Mapremex in Mexico in 1985 and supported by MAPAL USA, has problems in meeting these growth opportunities. In 2004 MAPAL therefore agrees upon a joint venture with the tool manufacturer FRHENOSA in Monterrey, which was founded in 1984. In several steps, the machinery there is modernised, expanded and aligned towards the manufacture and repair of MAPAL products such as ISO tools, solid carbide drills and solid carbide milling cutters. There is also a regrinding service for indexable insert tools and lateron the calibration of setting tools is also offered. MAPAL FRHENOSA opens up regional offices in Querétaro and Saltillo to provide even better customer service.
Since their foundation, the MAPAL subsidiaries in Brazil and Mexico have developed into successful, steadily growing companies within the MAPAL Group. MAPAL's Latin American presence is complemented by a sales agency in Argentina.
