On the way to a stable future through transformation

2014–2025

While MAPAL initially continues to grow rapidly, the framework conditions for the previously successful business model are changing. The transformation of the automotive industry and other megatrends have prompted Dr Jochen Kress, Managing Partner in office since 2018, to initiate MAPAL's transformation into an agile organisation with modern structures and processes from 2020. And thus make the family business fit in challenging times for a stable future.

NEW TIMES REQUIRE A NEW MAPAL

The grandson of the founder, Dr Jochen Kress, who has been with the company since 2008, recognises the need to prepare MAPAL for the challenges of the future, despite the continued strong growth. On the one hand, there are home-grown areas for action: The traditional internal structures and processes are less and less able to cope with the size and internationality of the MAPAL Group.

On the other hand, global megatrends such as decarbonisation, digitalisation, demographic change and the onset of deglobalisation are changing the framework conditions. MAPAL must therefore prepare for the move away from the combustion engine. As of 2014, new customers from the aviation industry, fluid technology and mechanical engineering are therefore being targeted, and MAPAL also enters the mould and die making sector.
With the founding of c-Com GmbH in 2017, MAPAL creates an innovative offering for the digitally networked “Industry 4.0”. Today the start-up primarily is used in combination with tool management solutions. The digital offering is supplemented by the online shop for standard tools, which launched in 2023.

In 2020, the crisis in the automotive industry and the coronavirus pandemic make the need for far-reaching changes abundantly clear. Dr Jochen Kress, Managing Partner since 2018, decisively initiates the transformation process. Immediate measures to secure the economic basis are followed by a reorganisation of the management levels, whereby the strategic orientation of the management, the MAPAL Executive Team, represents the starting point. Together with clearly defined cornerstones of a vision for the future, MAPAL is transforming itself into a process organisation with a structure geared towards high productivity. The resulting change processes in the MAPAL Group will secure an economically sound future for the family business and its employees in the next generation, building on what MAPAL stands for and for which MAPAL is valued by its customers.
